The Judgment of Others

The Judgement of Others

“If I can change within myself and keep learning how to change, then the world around me changes.”    –Brian Flowers Brian Flowers is a fellow artist living in one of these Spanish Land Grant villages that nestle in the fingered valleys running along the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico. I quote […]

Not Really New… Not Really Mexico

Not Really New Not Really Mexico

My friend, Craig Scogin, is a wonderful photographer who taught photography for 26 years. He’s now retired, living in Truchas, and has published a book of photography from his first two winters in New Mexico titled, Not Really New… Not Really Mexico. Craig sat the gallery with Anna and me this season. Without his help […]

First Snow

First Snow

We went from a sunny day in the 60’s yesterday to snow today! It’s SNOWING! Although it shows no signs of sticking much or hanging around, I have to admit it makes me a little nervous. It’s such an interesting thing that, although I live where we have snow all winter and this is my […]

Art For the Village

Art for the Village

Brian Flowers, a painter/sculptor living in Ojo Sarco, one village up from Truchas, had an opening at Hand Artes Gallery here in Truchas the other night. I don’t know how many of you have lived in small towns before but the very fact of their size makes the experience of living in one intimate. We […]

Disparate Pieces

Disparate Pieces

dis.pa.rateAdjective: Essentially different in kind; not allowing comparison.Noun: Things so unalike that there is no basis for comparison. When stating what he most loves about being a gallerist and, really, about life itself, Bill Franke, owner of Hand Artes Gallery in Truchas, says that it is bringing disparate art forms, people and philosophies, together and […]

Honoring Traditions

Honoring Traditions

My friend, Sheila O’Malley, is a working artist living in Taos, which is an hour’s drive from Truchas. While she does much of her work plain air in the New Mexico landscape (and sometimes on my land as in these outdoor photos), she also has a wonderful studio in Taos. Sheila admires the work of […]

My Neighbors

My Neighbors

The pastures around my house get rented out to people for grazing through the spring, summer and fall. One morning I awoke to three mares and their three colts pastured right next to me. They were a constant joy. The little ones played all day until they couldn’t play anymore. Then they would collapse in […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
