About

Jeane in the sun

“… I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
… I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
… I want to know… if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.” –Oriah Mountain Dreamer

The High Road Artist blog is a source of inspiration for artists, art lovers, and anyone seeking to find spiritual, personal, or artistic growth in their life. Jeane George Weigel, an accomplished painter and mentor/life coach, offers in-depth portraits of local New Mexico artists, refreshingly honest and insightful explorations of her own personal journey, and stories about the history, people, and culture of the small New Mexico village which has attracted a flourishing artist’s community and remains an important stop along the High Road to Taos. More than just a gallery guide, her blog offers anyone interested in living an artful life an intimate view filled with advice, captivating images, poetry, and personal narrative. This is all held together by the artist’s desire to embrace a larger community and invite them to share in her quest for truth, meaning, and beauty in an exquisite but sometimes unforgiving land.” –Kathy Kessler

I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different. I think every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. I may find mine as an artist, you a physicist, a teacher, a parent. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I’ll write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives. And I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.

In the immortal words of Joseph Campbell, “You must give up the life you planned in order to have the life that is waiting for you.” Here’s your chance. Tell me what YOU dream of. Drop me a line and share your hopes and inklings or to send questions my way.
