First Frost

There was something extra special about the market yesterday. Companionably cold and crisp, everyone was bundled up against this new nip in the air.

Reaching for Connection

Let’s travel to the ends of the earth, if necessary, to comfort or even say goodbye to the people who matter–those who make up a life–in my case, the one who GAVE me life.

Just For Fun

Imagine coming upon this remarkable house, sitting in a quiet little neighborhood, totally unawares. It really blew my hair back I must say. I know nothing about it except that it is beautifully artful.

Passion Versus Obligation

Painting isn’t just about stepping up to the easel. It’s about living a life that is filled with inspiration, about creating the space to ruminate and consider and to pursue what fills me.

Receiving as Giving

Apparently, giving is extremely important to our psyches, even to our brain chemistry. So if we deny something given to us, we deny the giver this important act of giving. I’ve practiced being mindful of this…

Snowed In In New Mexico

I woke the other morning to a gorgeous sunrise and so much snow that I was snowed in. Out here in the country, high up in the mountains, we don’t get mail delivery to our homes. So I had to walk out…

A Christmas Memory

…Tender delicate pieces of living that could go unnoticed but for the stripped down pace we are so very lucky to live. One where the neighboring horses have come to expect our passing, where the dogs, once hungry, gallop alongside us in strength and health…

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
