CAKES, CAKES and More CAKES!
As you all might have guessed, CAKE was to be a big part of my mother’s 90th birthday celebration, and my niece, Amy, was in charge. And let me tell you, she was the right person for the job. Amy is a great cook and a talented baker.
What Is Important?
I arrived at my family’s beach on Vashon Island on a Friday early evening. My mom was already there and, along with my sister and brother-in-law, we shared a wonderful dinner in our dear little cabin. Carol and Rolly left soon after for the mainland and I went to walk on the beach.

I am home, again, in the mountains, standing beneath Truchas Peaks, reveling in the fact that, in my life, I’ve been given two deeply meaningful places–the one of my youth and the one where I will likely end.

Most of you know I’m the proud mama of quite a brood: 8 rescue animals—3 big dogs and 5 cats. Every single one of them has issues—different issues—that make caring for them an amazing dance that I’ve learned how to do over time.
