Roommates

Weigel House

Wisdom Wednesdays are usually quotes from others that I’ve found inspiring through the years. However, I just came across some writings of mine written in 1997 and in 1995 that I wanted to share. This is the second of those, written in 1997: Roommates Sam’s my roommate. Sort of. She lives in the apartment I […]

Starting Over

High Road Artist Number 100

Wisdom Wednesdays are usually quotes from others that I’ve found inspiring through the years. However, I just came across some writings of mine written in 1997 and in 1995 that I wanted to share. This is the first of those, written in 1997. I titled it Starting Over: On March 8th, 1996 I almost died. […]

I Rest As a Spiritual Act – Anne Lamott

Kelee at work

This is another piece by the wonderful author, Anne Lamott. I wish I could say I am 100% where she is, but I’m getting there. Self-love is somewhat slow in coming to me fully, and the wonder of rest given freely is still something I aspire to, but, like Anne, I would not give back […]

Bird by Bird – Anne Lamott

Chicken Slider

This passage is from the book, Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. She’s a wonderful writer whose work I very much enjoy. This particular book is a manual on writing, but I’ve applied all of her lessons to painting: Thirty years ago my older brother, who was ten years old at the time, was trying […]

Shine Your Light On Me

These are lyrics from a song by The Waifs, a band out of Australia. They’re a great group and I love this song. Lighthouse Man Lighthouse tall and grand standing on the cold headland shine your light across the sea for a wayward sailor girl like me Lighthouse man guide this sailor back to land […]

The First Stone: Jeanne Marie Laskas

A Little Mountain History

This article has been very meaningful to me over the years and I’m just realizing, now, that I have begun to live and create in this way, more fully than I’ve ever been able to do before. The First Stone by Jeanne Marie Laskas Mack, the builder of walls, is out in the front yard […]

Bring You Alive : David Whyte

Old Land Grant Slider

I absolutely love the poet, David Whyte. His poems have been sustenance to me in times of trouble and joyous exclamations when I celebrate. This is one of my favorites: Sweet Darkness When your eyes are tired the world is tired also. When your vision has gone, no part of the world can find you. […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
