A White Christmas is Coming

White German Shepherd

I awoke this morning to our first winter storm. I just knew we’d get snow before Christmas. As it’s looking, now, we’ll likely even have a white Christmas, which will be lovely. Kelee and I headed out to the Llano, in the snow, to visit the horses again (what a difference a few days make, […]

A Beautiful Day On the Llano

A Beautiful Day on the Llano

I just had the best day and wanted to share it with you. First, there was a gorgeous sunrise showing over the mountain and in the valley. How many of you dread your alarm clocks and wish for just a few more minutes’ sleep every morning? It was like that for me in my corporate […]

Photos of a Surrealistic December

Hidden Fears, A Fear Story

I am just in from a walk on the Land Grant and it is 54 degrees out there! It feels even warmer in this high altitude sun. I live in the mountains of northern New Mexico, at 8500 feet, it’s December, and other than remnants of earlier dustings that cling to the shadows, there is […]

How to Make a Living Doing What You Love!

How to make a living doing what you love

Many working artists piece together livings from various sources. Most of us don’t make it exclusively by selling our art, although it’s what we all aspire to do…

Morning Light With Coyote

Morning Light With Coyote

I awoke this morning to a serenade by a particular coyote. I was really glad to see him. He’s a young guy who was wounded a couple of months ago. I know this because he was out in my pasture all morning crying and it broke my heart. But, recently, he’s been back, walking with […]

All That Glitters

All that Glitters

There is a wonderful book published by the School of American Research Press called All That Glitters, The Emergence of Native American Micaceous Art Pottery in Northern New Mexico (I borrowed my title from this because I just couldn’t come up with anything better). I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in […]

First Snow

First Snow

We went from a sunny day in the 60’s yesterday to snow today! It’s SNOWING! Although it shows no signs of sticking much or hanging around, I have to admit it makes me a little nervous. It’s such an interesting thing that, although I live where we have snow all winter and this is my […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
