Rescue Dog Finn: A Love Story

Finn Update

I don’t know how many of you have had the experience of sharing an extra-special bond with one of your animals. There have been three such instances in my lifetime: my first dog, as an adult, Meghann, a rescue with a fractured back and broken leg, a feral cat a friend and I brought in […]

Rescue Dog’s Happy Success Story: Finn Thrives

Finn Update

This coming Wednesday Finn will have been with me for two weeks–see previous post, Rescue Dog: Meet Finn (Survivor). It fills my heart with joy all the ways this sweet, sweet dog has come around. He is putting on weight faster than I’d hoped was possible. He sleeps, something he really couldn’t do very well […]

Rescued Puppy, Beau, Lands the Good Life

Beau Rescue Dog

Two years ago my friend, Julie, told me about a litter of semi-wild puppies living under a trailer with their mom. The mom had a home, sort of. She lived outside, was starving most of the time, rarely had water and was not fond of strangers. However, she was fiercely loyal to her people. We […]

Bubby’s Grand Adventure Outdoors

Artist Craig Scogin

When I moved to New Mexico I built an enclosure for my cats so that, in spite of the wildlife population surrounding my land, they would get to have an indoor/outdoor experience, even if it was somewhat limited. I have five, count ‘em, FIVE cats (it was six until I lost my dear Little Girl […]

Rescue Dog Braves the Great Outdoors: Skye Breaks Free

ok, maybe not

We’ve had a pretty big event here in our Weigel household today: Skye WENT OUT THE FRONT DOOR! She’d been used as a bait dog to teach fighting dogs how to kill and was covered with puncture wounds. The vet didn’t know if she could ever have anything like a normal dog’s life but, slowly, […]

A Celebration of Skye’s First Year

Night Skye

Let me start by saying, right up front, it’s very hard to get decent photos of Skye. She’s uncomfortable with attention focused on her and that includes a camera. I even tried to get shots of her running around in the kitty enclosure, through a closed door, but she saw me and stopped. I still […]

Puppy Rescue

Puppy Rescue

My friends, Barbara and Alvaro, who I wrote about earlier in this blog (A Journey of the Soul and Renaissance Man), have recently rescued an abandoned puppy. They already have two bulldogs and weren’t looking for another dog, but there she was one night in their snowy field. Her name is Cricket. And the truth […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
