Can You Give Your Art Space?

My Neighbors

In spite of the fact I’ve very recently told you that it’s possible to fit your art into the small spaces of your life, I was starting to stress yesterday, wondering how it was all going to work, really. I got up before sunrise and jumped right into it. I was deeply inspired and excited. I […]

Beginning to Paint at 77!

Child's Play

Today the sun rose and the sun set but, oh, can you guess what happened in between? My private student, Betty, BEGAN TO PAINT–to really paint! She’s 77 years old and has wanted to her whole life. She’s dabbled in a little watercolor before, but nothing focused or ongoing, nothing she’s felt was meaningful or […]

Finding Time for Your Art

Back to the studio

One of the challenges you’ll face as you try to get to your art is finding the time. Aside from the various excuses you’ll manufacture from pure fear and avoidance, life does ask a lot of us and there are genuine tasks we must address before we can paint (or sculpt, or photograph, or throw […]

Beginning to Paint (Again)

Night Skye

OK, so the actual day to begin to paint for the season has arrived. I’m going to take notes of each step, and photos, as I take the plunge, but first there was one thing I had to do before getting here: Step 1 Go through all my materials to see what I have and […]

What Is Art?

Re-Birthday

What is art? This question was put to me recently with the suggestion that, in addition to answering it myself, I ask those of you reading this blog to give me your thoughts. I would love to hear from you (if you go to the “contact” tab, you’ll find a form you can use or […]

It’s Never Too Late to Begin Painting

It's never too late

I have a private student right now who gave me permission to talk about our classes. Her name is Betty and she’s so amazing to me. She’s 77 years old, has always wanted to express herself creatively, to paint, but has only done it sporadically. So she’s taking classes with me. We’re not painting yet. […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
