Is Art Product or Process?

Jeane Painting

In The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron takes up the issue of art as process rather than product. I’d really like you to think about this with me for a minute because I feel it’s one of the biggest reasons people don’t get around to doing their art. She points out that,“We inherit the obsession with […]

Can You Make Art Every Day?

Back to the studio

What is art? We’ve been batting this question around on the blog for a while now. Here is another aspect: It is getting to the easel (or the wheel, the piano, the computer, the camera). Without this simple thing, presenting ourselves to our art, there would be no art. Simple as that. So art is, […]

Craig Scogin on What Is Art?

snow

As you know, I’ve asked some of my artist friends to write their views on art for the blog. This is photographer Craig Scogin’s response to the question, “What Is Art?” Some of you may remember that I have written about Craig Scogin before. He is the author of the book Not Really New… Not […]

Why is Making Art Hard?

The Judgement of Others

OK, the fact is I never know where a painting is going to take me. As I’ve said before, painting, for me, is like taking leap after leap in the dark. This is all well and good when those leaps are taking me someplace that looks GOOD while I’m leaping. But there are days when […]

Inspiration for New Art

First Snow

Not only did yesterday’s snowstorm create, for me, time in the studio I wasn’t finding for myself, it also offers, now, the added bonus of turning my world into a winter wonderland of inspiration. No doubt new paintings will be born from the beauty these mountains offer up to us in as many ways as […]

Come Paint With Me!

White German Shepherd

Today I had a permit to go shoot photos at one of the Pueblos—for a blog post no less. But the mountain had other ideas. It’s snowing out there—so much so that I’m snowed in. That means I get to PAINT! I love the way Spirit always gets her way. Clearly, I was supposed to […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
