What do Artists Need?

A Little Help From My Friends

I just watched, over the last three nights, three amazing biographies: Alfred Stieglitz: The Eloquent Eye, Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision, and The Life and Work of Sally Mann. It was an important time for me to see these because, the fact is, there is something of a let-down, having completed the gallery. We […]

Can You Follow Your Heart?

59 - Solitude

I just watched a movie from Netflix that was unexpectedly inspiring called Morning Glory. In it a young woman was facing obstacles in pursuing her dream. Her mother told her that, at her age, continuing to believe had become an embarrassment. She continued anyway and, through it all, she found a way to be kind. […]

Belief and Forgiveness

Belief And Forgiveness Slider

Holy Week, the week before Good Friday and Easter Sunday, is very meaningful here in northern New Mexico. I spoke with Isabro Ortega about it today (see previous post Isabro Ortega: Master Carver). Isabro grew up very religious, very Catholic. He says, “It’s always been a tradition, as long as I can remember, walking to […]

Why do Artists Create?

Hand-Artes-Yard

I’ve been feeling stressed lately. I know you all can relate. In spite of the fact I love my work and it’s actually my dream to be doing this work, it has occurred to me recently that I work ALL THE TIME! You’ve heard the saying “all work and no play…” or better yet, “too […]

What Makes Life Meaningful?

Weigel House

Fifteen years ago, today, I died (see previous posts My Story Begins, My Re-Birthday, The Night I Died: The Whole Story, Part 1 and The Night I Died, the Whole Story, Part 2). There are people who don’t understand why I would mark this day, let alone celebrate it, but March 8th forever changed my course. […]

Are You Ready to Love?

Being Humbled

A friend asked me the other day if I have been humbled. It’s a good and a fair question. I don’t know how much you think about this. I really hadn’t until he brought it up. He didn’t mean it in the sense of loosing power or strength. He meant quite the opposite. I think […]

The High Road Artist’s 100th Post!

First Snow

Today is a rather momentous day so I’m going to forego our regular Wisdom Wednesday entry. Instead I want to mark this particular day because it is our 100th post. Wow! About 5 months ago I started this project with Adam Wimsatt. He handles all the technical stuff that I never could have learned to […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
