Would You Like to Design Your Own Quilt?

June 25, 2012 by Jeane George Weigel

I have a long standing kinesthetic relationship with fibers—I like to touch. It feels elemental, like something from another lifetime. Knitting, crocheting, reverse applique, embroidery, needlepoint, weaving, and sewing—I’ve dabbled in them all.

What Used to Be

June 24, 2012 by Jeane George Weigel

It occurred to me the other day as I stepped past this patch of alfalfa on my land, how I often take for granted so much of what went before. Horses and cattle all love alfalfa, particularly when it is flowering.

Support for the Arts

June 23, 2012 by Jeane George Weigel

Anna got a call the other day from Pam Jackson who lives in Albuquerque. She and her friend, Carla Sanchez, were coming to Truchas and Pam had something for Anna. Would Anna be around? Yes, indeed she would.

Why Move From New Jersey to New Mexico?

June 22, 2012 by Jeane George Weigel

What is a woman from the suburbs of New Jersey doing in a remote Hispanic mountain village? Living her dream, of course!

Simply Scrumptious Poppy Seed Cake Recipe

June 21, 2012 by Jeane George Weigel

This is not a recipe sent in by a reader. In fact it is one I’ve been making since way back in my hippy days. Yes, folks, I used to be a hippy. Oh, those were the days! Grateful Dead concerts, making music, and cooking… yes, I used to cook!

Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet: The Eighth Letter

June 20, 2012 by Jeane George Weigel

I had not been aware of Rilke’s “Letters to a Young Poet” until a friend recently made reference to them. This, the eighth letter, is a stunning piece of writing. Of course Rilke’s brilliance always shows itself in the thoughts he had, beautifully expressed here.

Saying Goodbye

June 19, 2012 by Jeane George Weigel

Nearly as quickly as I had arrived, it was time to leave the island—very bittersweet to be sure. I was reminded of my teenage years when the end of the summer would come around and we would drive away from the beach for the last time that year. It was always, always hard to go and this leaving was no exception.

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
