How to Make a Living Doing What You Love!

How to make a living doing what you love

Many working artists piece together livings from various sources. Most of us don’t make it exclusively by selling our art, although it’s what we all aspire to do…

Happy Dog: Skye in Snow

Skye Playing in the Snow

I know many of you understand what it’s like to save the life of an animal and then watch them thrive. It’s a great joy and a privilege to experience their blossoming. This morning was like that for me with Skye. Those of you who know her story will remember that she was a feral […]

Robert Redford’s Milagro Beanfield War in Truchas

Robert Redford's Milagro Beanfield War in Truchas

In 1988 Robert Redford filmed The Milagro Beanfield War here in Truchas. I don’t know how many of you have read John Nichols’s book by the same name, but it is a wonderful read and I highly recommend it. I’ve been trying to paint a picture, on this blog, for those of you not from […]

My Favorite Taos Modernist

Fireplace for Winter

Before coming to New Mexico I had never heard of the Taos Modernists. I now consider them a primary inspiration for my work. I will write later about the group and its artists but first I wanted to celebrate the work of Beatrice Mandelman, my favorite Taos Modernist. I first became aware of her work […]

Morning Light With Coyote

Morning Light With Coyote

I awoke this morning to a serenade by a particular coyote. I was really glad to see him. He’s a young guy who was wounded a couple of months ago. I know this because he was out in my pasture all morning crying and it broke my heart. But, recently, he’s been back, walking with […]

Comfort In Discomfort

Jeane in the sun

I am way, way, way, way out of my comfort zone. My life is changing. So much so it is impossible to control and that is the specific point the universe is making, it seems. I am being shown myself, my controlling self—the part of me that actually thinks I can contain life. Until recently […]

All That Glitters

All that Glitters

There is a wonderful book published by the School of American Research Press called All That Glitters, The Emergence of Native American Micaceous Art Pottery in Northern New Mexico (I borrowed my title from this because I just couldn’t come up with anything better). I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
