Christmas In Taos

Christmas in Taos

My friends Nancy Ortenstone and Pierre Delattre just moved into a new gallery space in Taos (Ortenstone Delattre Fine Art, 115 Bent Street, 575.737.0799), and had their grand opening recently, which I attended. I’ll be doing individual pieces on Nancy and Pierre later in the blog, but I wanted to share some photos of the […]

The Wisdom of Mary Oliver: Part 2

The Judgement of Others

Here is another poem by Mary Oliver that I absolutely love. The first sentence, alone, has sustained me in times of trouble: Wild Geese You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft […]

Mark of the Ancients, Part 2: Taos Pueblo

Not Really New Not Really Mexico

Unlike Bandolier, which is inhabited only by the spirits that went before, Taos Pueblo is a living ancient village. This Pueblo is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited community in the US, formally acknowledged as older than one thousand years. However, the people of the Pueblo say, “The Native legends and detailed oral history […]

Mark of the Ancients, Part 1: Bandolier

A Little Mountain History

I am, once again, living in a place that is surrounded by ancient sites. Some of them are ruins, inhabited only by the spirits of those who went before, some are national parks and some are still active pueblo villages. The living pueblos include Taos, Picuris, San Juan, Santa Clara, Nambe, Pojoaque, Tesuque and San […]

What Is Art?

Re-Birthday

What is art? This question was put to me recently with the suggestion that, in addition to answering it myself, I ask those of you reading this blog to give me your thoughts. I would love to hear from you (if you go to the “contact” tab, you’ll find a form you can use or […]

A White Christmas is Coming

White German Shepherd

I awoke this morning to our first winter storm. I just knew we’d get snow before Christmas. As it’s looking, now, we’ll likely even have a white Christmas, which will be lovely. Kelee and I headed out to the Llano, in the snow, to visit the horses again (what a difference a few days make, […]

Patience in the Beauty of Life's Unfolding

Jeane at 25

I have no idea if it’s still like this or whether you had the same experience, but back when I was in high school in the 60’s, by junior year, we were supposed to decide what we wanted to do for our careers, for the rest of our lives! I was 15 when that question […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
