Good Morning, Grandfather

As I am getting to know my Pueblo Indian friends, I am becoming aware of a shift in me. I believe that when we’re ready for lessons, our teachers appear. These people are my teachers for a new body of personal work I wasn’t even aware was on the horizon. Knowing them seems to be […]

Come Paint With Me!

White German Shepherd

Today I had a permit to go shoot photos at one of the Pueblos—for a blog post no less. But the mountain had other ideas. It’s snowing out there—so much so that I’m snowed in. That means I get to PAINT! I love the way Spirit always gets her way. Clearly, I was supposed to […]

Can You Give Your Art Space?

My Neighbors

In spite of the fact I’ve very recently told you that it’s possible to fit your art into the small spaces of your life, I was starting to stress yesterday, wondering how it was all going to work, really. I got up before sunrise and jumped right into it. I was deeply inspired and excited. I […]

A New Day Dawning at the Taos Pueblo

A New Day Dawning

As I approached the Taos Pueblo it was -13 degrees and dark. Venus hung high in the sky, above a crescent moon. The sun would be rising soon and I was arriving for the 7AM Turtle Dance on New Years Day. Bernadette and Robert’s son, Pollen and Shell’s brother, AJ, was dancing today. He’s been […]

Among the Ancients, Part 2: Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan Pueblo)

Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan Pueblo)

I have lived near the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo for almost three years now but, until accepting an invitation to watch their Turtle Dance with Pollen and her family, I’d never been there, nor did I know anything about it. Although fewer than 1000 people currently live on the Pueblo, it once had nearly 6,000 residents. […]

As We Think, So We Become — Buddha

The Real Thing

I have carried this quote around with me for decades. It’s most often been on my refrigerator. There was a time when it was confusing to me, as well as challenging. Now I totally “get it” but it’s still, of course, challenging: The thought manifest as the word; The word manifest as the deed; The […]

Among the Ancients, Part 1: Taos Pueblo

Not Really New Not Really Mexico

I was blessed with a remarkable holiday weekend and I hope you all were as well. I spent Christmas Day and the day after that attending the dances at the Taos Pueblo and then the Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan Pueblo). I was in the company of my friends Bernadette Track, Robert Shorty and their daughters […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
