Ode to the Peaks

The Peaks

Last night while reading William deBuys’ wonderful book, The Walk, I came upon his passages about the mountains—specifically, about the peaks. That would be Trampas, Jicarilla, Sheepshead, North Truchas, Middle Truchas and, finally, South Truchas Peaks. I see, from my land, from my windows, Truchas Peaks. They form the basis from which I live. They […]

Gallery Hopping In Santa Fe

Renaissance Man

How many of you know that Santa Fe trades places with New York City every year between being the second and third largest art market in the world? It’s true. Paris is always number one. I had no idea before coming here. I also thought Santa Fe was a western art town. I couldn’t have […]

Puppy Rescue

Puppy Rescue

My friends, Barbara and Alvaro, who I wrote about earlier in this blog (A Journey of the Soul and Renaissance Man), have recently rescued an abandoned puppy. They already have two bulldogs and weren’t looking for another dog, but there she was one night in their snowy field. Her name is Cricket. And the truth […]

Why Does Love Matter?

dawning 2

I have come to this village to learn what it means to love. I see that clearly tonight, under the light of a full moon.

"I beg you…" – Rainer Maria Rilke

All that Glitters

This advice has been profound in my life. I’ve been growing into it over the last fifteen years as Rilke suggests. I am forever grateful. “I beg you… to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a […]

In Pursuit of Art

Weigel House

Kathy has just come to visit from Great Barrington, Massachusetts. I met her with her husband, Mike, in Anna and my gallery this past season when they bought one of my favorite paintings, Blue 2. We felt this amazing connection—all three of us. They stayed and talked for a couple of hours. I love that […]

Inspiration for New Art

First Snow

Not only did yesterday’s snowstorm create, for me, time in the studio I wasn’t finding for myself, it also offers, now, the added bonus of turning my world into a winter wonderland of inspiration. No doubt new paintings will be born from the beauty these mountains offer up to us in as many ways as […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
