Why Today is so Important – The Daffodil Principle

Being Humbled

This is much longer than the other pieces I’ve posted on Wisdom Wednesdays but I just love its message — and aren’t we all feeling spring in the air? Let this acknowledge its coming and help us remember to cherish it when it does. Once AGAIN, I don’t have the name of its author: Several […]

Bubby’s Grand Adventure Outdoors

Artist Craig Scogin

When I moved to New Mexico I built an enclosure for my cats so that, in spite of the wildlife population surrounding my land, they would get to have an indoor/outdoor experience, even if it was somewhat limited. I have five, count ‘em, FIVE cats (it was six until I lost my dear Little Girl […]

Judith Hert, Artist

Judith Hert

Judith Hert is a painter and writer who moved to Truchas, New Mexico with her husband in the spring of 1999. She wondered aloud when we were talking the other day if any place one moves to ever turns out the way they think it will. It sure didn’t for her. Six weeks after coming […]

Art Inspires Art

Fence and Clouds

I have just finished reading River of Traps–A New Mexico Mountain Life, by William deBuys, and I am becoming aware that this work has found its way into my work. I’ve been painting a couple of series for about a year and a half now—much longer than any series I’ve ever done. They are my […]

Dust If You Must

All that Glitters

I’m really liking these “Wisdom Wednesdays”. It gives me a chance to share meaningful quotes from others that have supported and enriched my life. So far my choices have been spiritual, profound. Today’s selection is lighter, but important as well, I think. It has helped me bring my perspective back to a healthier place more […]

Rescue Dog Braves the Great Outdoors: Skye Breaks Free

ok, maybe not

We’ve had a pretty big event here in our Weigel household today: Skye WENT OUT THE FRONT DOOR! She’d been used as a bait dog to teach fighting dogs how to kill and was covered with puncture wounds. The vet didn’t know if she could ever have anything like a normal dog’s life but, slowly, […]

Why do Artists Create?

Hand-Artes-Yard

I’ve been feeling stressed lately. I know you all can relate. In spite of the fact I love my work and it’s actually my dream to be doing this work, it has occurred to me recently that I work ALL THE TIME! You’ve heard the saying “all work and no play…” or better yet, “too […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
