The Cookie Thief

Re-Birthday

Once again, I am guilty of losing the source of this quite sweet poem. It’s such a great reminder that what we think we’re seeing isn’t always what’s real, so I wanted to share it with you. Let’s all try to be flexible with our perceptions! The Cookie Thief A woman was waiting at the […]

Are You Ready to Love?

Being Humbled

A friend asked me the other day if I have been humbled. It’s a good and a fair question. I don’t know how much you think about this. I really hadn’t until he brought it up. He didn’t mean it in the sense of loosing power or strength. He meant quite the opposite. I think […]

Art Matters: Alvaro Cardona-Hine Answers Why is Art Important?

alvaro in gallery

From the very beginning, whenever man has found a moment he doesn’t have to devote to survival, he looks around, gauges the distance, assesses the world, does this against himself, against his temporal weakness. A woman in a cave, after cooking the leg of a bear for her family, might have taken a piece of […]

Craig Scogin On Why Art Is Important

Artist Craig Scogin

My friend, photographer Craig Scogin (previous posts Not Really New… Not Really Mexico and Craig Scogin On What Is Art?), offers his views on why art is important. All photographs in today’s post were shot by Craig. I have been asked why art is important. I had written about history and culture, healing and humanity, […]

The High Road Artist’s 100th Post!

First Snow

Today is a rather momentous day so I’m going to forego our regular Wisdom Wednesday entry. Instead I want to mark this particular day because it is our 100th post. Wow! About 5 months ago I started this project with Adam Wimsatt. He handles all the technical stuff that I never could have learned to […]

Why Is Art Important?

Why is art important? As I’ve pondered this question, I’ve realized there is no way I can depersonalize my answer. I honestly can’t say why art is important to another but I can express my experience. I would love to get your thoughts on the subject and, as with the earlier question about what art […]

Solitude

Think about solitude and our culture for just a minute. Do you ever wish things were simpler? In general it seems life, these days, is always so full. Between jobs, appointments, errands, time with friends and family members, where do people find space to be totally alone? Most are bombarded every single day with millions […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
