Fra Giovanni Giocondo

59 - Solitude

My friend, Grace Kane, who has been a supporter of this blog since its inception, sent this piece to me saying she thought it was lovely. I agree with her and I wanted to publish it on this Wisdom Wednesday so more of you can enjoy it. I also thought it was pertinent to the […]

Rescued Puppy, Beau, Lands the Good Life

Beau Rescue Dog

Two years ago my friend, Julie, told me about a litter of semi-wild puppies living under a trailer with their mom. The mom had a home, sort of. She lived outside, was starving most of the time, rarely had water and was not fond of strangers. However, she was fiercely loyal to her people. We […]

Lashes LaRoo: Tales of the Film Industry, Part 2

Lashes LaRoo 2

Continued from yesterday’s post (Lashes LaRoo: Tales of the Film Industry, Part 1), which tells how Lashes started in the film business. Today—Lashes moves to Hollywood, in her own words: I grew up in New York and I got into the business in New York. Then I moved to California, unfortunately, because of a relationship, […]

Lashes LaRoo: Tales of the Film Industry, Part 1

Lashes LaRoo

My good friend, who lives here in Truchas, is an intensely private person in a very public business. She has agreed to share her story under a pseudonym of her choosing. In the 1940’s there was a Western actor named Lashe LaRue, so in keeping with her love of film, my nameless friend will now […]

Why Today is so Important – The Daffodil Principle

Being Humbled

This is much longer than the other pieces I’ve posted on Wisdom Wednesdays but I just love its message — and aren’t we all feeling spring in the air? Let this acknowledge its coming and help us remember to cherish it when it does. Once AGAIN, I don’t have the name of its author: Several […]

Bubby’s Grand Adventure Outdoors

Artist Craig Scogin

When I moved to New Mexico I built an enclosure for my cats so that, in spite of the wildlife population surrounding my land, they would get to have an indoor/outdoor experience, even if it was somewhat limited. I have five, count ‘em, FIVE cats (it was six until I lost my dear Little Girl […]

Judith Hert, Artist

Judith Hert

Judith Hert is a painter and writer who moved to Truchas, New Mexico with her husband in the spring of 1999. She wondered aloud when we were talking the other day if any place one moves to ever turns out the way they think it will. It sure didn’t for her. Six weeks after coming […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
