Remembering Family

Mom-and-Dad

In keeping with Wisdom Wednesdays written by me, I have one last to add. This was written in 1978 when I was living on Vashon Island in Puget Sound. My great-great-grandparents were the first of my family to settle there. I was fortunate to spend a lot of my childhood on the beach with my […]

Opening at Ghost Pony Gallery, Truchas, NM

Ghost Pony Gallery

As I’ve said before, many of the artists living up here on the High Road have their own galleries, while often showing in others as well. Like several throughout the villages, Trish Booth and Leonardo Pieterse have theirs, Ghost Pony Gallery, in their home. It’s a perfect scenario because they don’t have to leave to […]

Lee Price’s Show “Full” at Evoke Contemporary Gallery, Santa Fe

Lee Price's "Full"

NOTE: This post was written quite awhile ago but it was repeatedly pushed back to make room for the New Gallery posts. The show Full is no longer up at Evoke and has been replaced by a new group show titled Decadence, which is opening tonight from 5-7 and is curated by John O’Hern. Way […]

New Gallery’s Opening Day!

Official Opening Day

Today we celebrated. We got to the gallery, the three of us, Anna, Bill and I, and set all the lights in all the rooms. And just as Bill was finishing up some wiring, before we’d had a chance to put away the tools and the bulbs, before our OPEN sign was even up, our […]

Weaving the Threads Together

My Backyard

The physical materials that make up these micaceous pieces include, of course, the wood and canvas of my substrate, the plasters I use to create texture. And then the grasses from this land on which I live… … and the precious mica, this “gift of the earth, gift of those who have the privilege of […]

Simply Love

Wisdom Wednesdays are usually quotes from others that I’ve found inspiring through the years. However, I just came across some writings of mine written in 1997 and in 1995 that I wanted to share.

Next I Look to the Earth

All that Glitters

I walk on my land across the earth to the shady reaches of the land grant, banked by its wild arroyo, deep and mysterious, until recently unexplored by me. As I wander out there, alone but for my dogs, my eyes invariably fall from the expanse of sky, the sweep of mountains, to the rock […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
