I Rest As a Spiritual Act – Anne Lamott

Kelee at work

This is another piece by the wonderful author, Anne Lamott. I wish I could say I am 100% where she is, but I’m getting there. Self-love is somewhat slow in coming to me fully, and the wonder of rest given freely is still something I aspire to, but, like Anne, I would not give back […]

A New Friend For Skye

Skooby

It seems Skye’s world is simply bursting at the seams. She has a new friend! (see previous posts Night Skye, A Celebration of Skye’s First Year and Rescue Dog Braves the Great Outdoors: Skye Breaks Free) My friend, Julie, came by this morning with my paper and brought her cuter-than-anyone-has-a-right-to-be white chijaujau, Scooby, with her. […]

Bird by Bird – Anne Lamott

Chicken Slider

This passage is from the book, Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. She’s a wonderful writer whose work I very much enjoy. This particular book is a manual on writing, but I’ve applied all of her lessons to painting: Thirty years ago my older brother, who was ten years old at the time, was trying […]

Do You Need to Change?

Weigel House

It is never easy to change—even when we know it is in our best interests. Old ways are deeply learned behaviors that have become embedded in the very fiber of our beings. It is incredibly hard to let go of even just a small piece of closely held self-concept. I know you all know this. […]

Shine Your Light On Me

sunrise

These are lyrics from a song by The Waifs, a band out of Australia. They’re a great group and I love this song. Lighthouse Man Lighthouse tall and grand standing on the cold headland shine your light across the sea for a wayward sailor girl like me Lighthouse man guide this sailor back to land […]

Rescue Dog Finn: A Love Story

Finn Update

I don’t know how many of you have had the experience of sharing an extra-special bond with one of your animals. There have been three such instances in my lifetime: my first dog, as an adult, Meghann, a rescue with a fractured back and broken leg, a feral cat a friend and I brought in […]

Lashes LaRoo: The Real Deal

Truchas Field

Many of you were intrigued by my friend from the film industry who felt unable to participate on the blog using her real name, so she chose the pseudonym, Lashes LaRoo (see previous posts Lashes LaRoo: Tales of the Film Industry, Part 1 and Part 2). But I want to assure you she is very […]

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
