A Rite of Passage

Most of you know by now that I’ve just returned from the northwest where I traveled to celebrate my mom’s 90th birthday. I love birthdays because they mark the passage of time in a life. They are our personal, annual, rites of passage.

Surprising Visitors to the Gallery

Suellen Shapero has been following the blog for some time. I met her with her husband, Ed, at Hand Artes Gallery last season, and I guess one time before that in Anna and my gallery when we were in a previous location.

My Top Five Favorite Personal HRA Blog Photos

I have published other’s photos on the blog, but these are my personal favorites, shot by me, and my reasons why. Each one of these captured a particular moment in time—a bit of magic I couldn’t have planned for—the proverbial “being in the right place at the right time.”

CAKES, CAKES and More CAKES!

As you all might have guessed, CAKE was to be a big part of my mother’s 90th birthday celebration, and my niece, Amy, was in charge. And let me tell you, she was the right person for the job. Amy is a great cook and a talented baker.

What Is Important?

I arrived at my family’s beach on Vashon Island on a Friday early evening. My mom was already there and, along with my sister and brother-in-law, we shared a wonderful dinner in our dear little cabin. Carol and Rolly left soon after for the mainland and I went to walk on the beach.

You CAN Go Home Again

I am home, again, in the mountains, standing beneath Truchas Peaks, reveling in the fact that, in my life, I’ve been given two deeply meaningful places–the one of my youth and the one where I will likely end.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
