A Beautiful Garden in Northern New Mexico

I have mentioned to you all many times before that Anna Karin is not only an amazing artist, but also a stunning gardener. Her garden is an extension of her art and is never a burden to her, but always a joy.

What About Art in Albuquerque?

There is perhaps no state more closely identified with the art of its native people than New Mexico. Santa Fe and Taos are familiar arts destinations to most travelers but Albuquerque, the state’s largest city, also has a long and rich cultural history.

Birdie Roommates

I recently became aware of a bird’s nest on my western-facing portals–a very good, safe place for a nest. The parents have been busily working, first sitting on the eggs and now feeding their young. My friend, Kim, who knows a lot about birds, thought they were Flycatchers, so I looked them up and I believe he’s right.

Painting Continuing

I was able to spend some more time in the studio, although other life issues continue to pull at me. But I do see the time approaching when regular days in the studio will once again be a part of my life. Can’t wait!

A Very Mini Artist’s Colony in New Mexico

Kim told Bill and Margaret the other day that what we have, out on my land, is a “very mini artist’s colony,” and that is exactly it. Just the two of us in the midst of all this beauty and solitude, painting, writing, considering—shoring each other up when we need it and celebrating our successes when we have them.

When Van Gogh Was a Young Man

When Van Gogh was a young man in his early twenties, he was in London studying to be a clergyman. He had no thought of being an artist at all. He sat in his cheap little room writing a letter to his younger brother in Holland, whom he loved very much.

How to Begin Painting Again

Abject terror, rigid doubts that would not let go, intense pressure to perform. Fear, almost immobilizing fear. These were my emotions today as I started to paint again after roughly two months of not painting.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
