The Buffalo of Truchas, New Mexico

Jerry and Camilla Lopez raise buffalo and yak here in Truchas. They do this simply for the joy of it and because they look so great on the land. My friend, LaShanda Epp, is part of the Lopez family and she took Kim and me out to visit the animals the other day.

Delicious Southwestern Chicken Pie With Cheddar Pastry

The other night I made a recipe I hadn’t tried in roughly 20 years. This recipe for Southwestern Chicken Pie With Cheddar Pastry is one that I’d clipped from The Seattle Times, when I still lived there.

Reunited Horse Buddies

For whatever reason, several of the horses that are usually pastured alongside my road had been taken away, leaving only one gray stallion alone in the field. There had to be good reason for this because my neighbor, Wally, is very kind to his horses.

Of course Bill and Margaret Franke have been back in Truchas for some time now, after a winter away. And their beautiful Hand Artes Gallery is shimmering with new work and energy for this new season.

Artists in the Canyon

I wanted to go into the canyon to collect more photos from which to paint. I’m working on my Canyon Series and my vision is changing as I paint it. The photos I’d shot earlier no longer speak to my shifted vision.

A Beautiful Storm in Northern New Mexico

As most of you know we’ve been getting a lot of rain storms here in the mountains of Northern New Mexico lately. We need the rain so they are always a blessing. Often, I drop whatever I am doing to watch the storms approach.

I am forgoing our usual Wisdom Wednesday post to celebrate a rather large anniversary: High Road Artist’s 500th post. Wow! I have to say, that pretty much takes my breath away.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
