I was fortunate to spend Christmas Day with ten friends, nine of us artists. That happens frequently up here on the High Road to Taos. These villages that nestle within the fingered valleys of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, have been home to the arts and artists for centuries.
In fact, I spent the day with some of the finest artists New Mexico has to offer, genuine High Road royalty. Three of the couples have lived here for over two decades, literally paving the way for the rest of us to follow. They are Barbara McCauley and Alvaro Cardona Hine, Nancy Ortenstone and Pierre Delattre, Paula Castillo and Terry Mulert and their son, Francis. Then there were Anna Karin and Bill Loyd who helped me put the whole day together. Also gracing us with her presence was Julie Taggart. Not an artist currently, she is just beginning to explore her dreams. She will likely embrace farming, but the way Julie farms elevates it to an art form.
So I thought of you all and the conversations so many of you have shared with me—your hopes and dreams—many of those centering around art, and I wished you could have been here. So I’m bringing the party to you.
Wishing you all an artful holiday season, filled with good friends and laughter.
Love to you all,
Jeane
