The House of Old Things, Nambe, NM

Anna and I had to go to Santa Fe the other day and decided to stop by a great antique store called The House of Old Things on our way. This is a wonderful old home, originally a very old adobe, that was added onto in the 60s. The addition was done beautifully with original materials, put together in a contemporary design. Its owner was an architect and the effect is magnificent.

The couple who lived in the house are gone now and their relatives have been selling their various collections from the house itself. Anna has been frequenting the place for years and says that there used to be even more treasures than are available there now.

It is an amazing place filled with surprising things. Any of you in the area, or those visiting the High Road, owe yourselves the treat of stopping by—if you love old things, that is.

The House of Old Things

Love to you all,
Jeane

It is just a superb place to find very small treasures as well as large. Generally, the prices are somewhat high, but good deals can be found. Even when pricey, the finds are always worth it.

There are several B&B’s in Chimayo, only 8 miles down the mountain. I’m represented by Hand Artes Gallery. My Anna Karin Gallery is mostly closed for the winter, but on sunny weekends we should be open. Cardona Hine, my friends Barbara and Alvaro, is a wonderful gallery. Look forward to meeting you.

It’s only 23.5 hour drive from Kirkland to you…what a nice road trip…across Utah is a  little boring as I recall from our trip to Chicago….but worth it!!

Grace! I didn’t see this comment from you until just now. Utah can be beautiful, depending. 23.5 hours is nothing, right?

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
