A Call to Action From Clarissa Pinkola Estes

This was sent to me by a reader of the blog. Clarissa Pinkola Estes is calling we creatives to action. She is asking us to claim our freedom. Her words came to me at a time when I really needed to hear them. I hope they’ll be meaningful to you as well.

For you: From Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Dear Brave Souls:

I want artists and the creative souls of the world to succeed. This is why I ‘harp’ on the doing. Bringing work to the world is NOT based on who you know, who endorses or doesn’t, which one this or that… Don’t fool yourself. Bringing your work to the world is based only on YOU, your soul’s endurance which is endless, even when your poor spirit flags.

We are in a new world. You are no longer dependent on the gatekeepers. The gates in so many places that banned and banished and exiled and closed us out, have been blown off their hinges. The gates are just hanging there all black wires sprung and looking pathetic.

Now, there is just you. Everything is dependent on you, your WORK, your daily work. What you make. What you do with it after you make it. It never ends, what you will put into the work, even after it is complete.

Compare this with endings being forced on us in times previous because we did not please the emperor, because we were the un-darling one, because we didn’t go to the right or left school, because our village was invaded, because we weren’t born to the lucky sperm/ova club, weren’t the right size, color, religion, gender or whatever other spooky-kookey-lookie asinine ways mere humans have of running the equivalent of a lottery, and not the kind wherein one wins money… remember the short story “the lottery”… the prize was to die… and to corrupt everyone’s truest heart in the process.

Think of what this time of your life means, here in the 21st century. Wake up! You have NEVER been more free, more capable, with more tools available that once belonged only to the ruling king.

You need enter no lottery hoping to be spared. You need corrupt no one, nor derivate from anyone in order to create. You are free to create in original voice and to bring it all to full view to the world. To the world. You are free.

I want the artists and creators of this world to succeed. I will speak to those who have eyes to see, ears to hear about these matters of this never before heard of freedom in our times, until I am blue in the face… like Shiva… blue in the face, and dancing on the ego, and singing up the soul, singing over your bones.

You too. Singing the actions of freedom into being. Dancing into this new world. Most definitely you too.

and with love,
dr.e

I’m so glad, Sylvia. They were for me as well. Sometimes we need reminders, right?

It really struck me, too. A reader of the blog emailed it to me on a morning when I absolutely needed to hear these words. Take courage. Make your art.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
