Hand Artes Gallery: Settling In For the Winter In Truchas, NM

As many of you know, I’m represented by Hand Artes Gallery, a beautiful, contemporary gallery here in Truchas, New Mexico (see previous post Disparate Pieces). Bill and Margaret Franke own and operate the gallery in a gorgeous, old, adobe house which is also their home.

Recently, Bill decided to rehang the center room which is, actually, the dining room. His idea was to pull together many of his favorite pieces as though the space were simply his home and not also a gallery. He invited me by the other day to see the result.

It is so very difficult to get photos that truly show you what an elegant room he created, but it is stunning—a lovely space in which to have a dinner party.

I was flattered to see many of my pieces there, hanging alongside the masterful works of Sheila Keefe, Malabika Goldbar, Edward Briseno-Mills and Larry and Nancy Buechley.

Winter is beginning to show itself here in the high elevations of northern New Mexico and we’re all doing our individual versions of nesting. This was Bill making ready for winter, I think.

Soon a newcomer will be arriving to Hand Artes Gallery. Kim Moss, a Sante Fe artist, will be assisting Bill and Margaret with the gallery throughout this winter season. Welcome Kim!

You can learn more about Hand Artes Gallery at handartesgallery.com.

Love to you all,
Jeane

And this is only one room of the gallery! It is truly a contemporary gem. I need to check but I think, like us, Hand Artes Gallery is closed a couple of days each week during the winter, so let’s coordinate your trip when we know they’re open. I’ll check this out and let you know.

Thanks Jeane! I am also hoping to go to see Alvaro Cardona-Hines’ work. Aside from the fact that he was born in Costa Rica, like me, something about his art and his spirit just speak to me.

Alvaro and Barbara are my very good friends. His work is stunning and you’ll find them open all winter. They take turns sitting the gallery. There are several posts about Alvaro under Artist Profiles. And here’s one showing some of his work at Hand Artes Gallery: http://high-road-artist.com/8288/southwest-living/keefe-cardona-hine-at-hand-artes-gallery-truchas-nm/. I didn’t know you were from Costa Rica!

Hi Sylvia–Hand Artes Gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays during the winter season. Their winter hours are 10AM to 4:30PM. Anna and my gallery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and our hours are 10AM to 4PM. If we’re very slow, we will close at 3PM on some days. Perhaps this will help you plan your trip. Two friends of mine run a B&B as well, here in Truchas (an article about it will post next week), if you don’t want to do the whole thing in one day.

It DOES, doesn’t it? It’s rare to catch that.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
