Barbara McCauley’s Opening at The Gallery on the Green, Taos, NM

Note: This opening took place sometime ago now but the post was pushed back because I was documenting the new gallery coming into being. My apologies Barbara!

I couldn’t help thinking, over and over again, “I’m not in Truchas anymore,” like Dorothy and her Kansas. My friend, Barbara McCauley, (see previous posts A Journey of the Soul and Puppy Rescue) had an opening at The Taos Art Gallery the other night. Located in the Gallery on the Green at the Taos Country Club, it was like walking into another world! One hour from Truchas and it felt a million, million miles away. Time stood still. It really did. It was like taking a mini-vacation surrounded by Barbara’s sumptuous paintings.

It was a wonderful night—lots of good conversation, good friends and great art. A gorgeous drive back up the mountain at twilight, listening to good music, brought me back to the reality of this Truchas life, which I have to say is rather like a vacation itself—different from the Taos Country Club, but lovely and magical in its own way, in its own right. Time stands still here, too.

The evening was topped off when Barbara’s husband (and my friend) Alvaro Cardona Hine’s painting (see previous post Renaissance Man) was selected to be the 2011 Toast of Taos Arts and Wine Festival Poster.

Love to you all,

Jeanne, thanks for providing all of us in Truchas such a lovely set of memories of our times together.  So rich, so meaningful just as your own art work is.  Thanks again!!

I visited Barbara’s work and I just Love: “Woman Walking Away ” The blues are just so brilliant and I like the idea behind the painting of it reminding you of a dream. I also like the blue painting you took a picture of some plant in a container. Can you tell that I love this color of blue? It is such a brilliant color. Thanks for the tour of the Art Gallery in the Country Club for it is beautiful! Always enjoy other Artists stories and art work! Thanks and Take Care, Cin =)

What a gloriously HUGE gallery that looks like.  Amazing space like a huge blank canvas:)

Lovely what irrigation and lawnmowers can create for the golfers huh??  The golf course and Gallery compliment each other nicely:)

    Thanks  Jeane:)

Yes, it is an enormous space! It kind of gobbled us all up and made it seem fewer folks were there.

Yes, the very green lawns are part of that “different world” quality I was speaking of. We irrigate here in Truchas, but any “lawns” are the native grasses and most of the water is used to raise feed for livestock.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
