Bless Me, Ultima

I read the book, Bless Me, Ultima, by Rudolfo Anaya, while living in Seattle, long before even thinking about coming to the southwest, years before making New Mexico my home. Now I understand it is a part of the curriculum of the New Mexico state school system. It is another book I recommend if you want to get an idea of the culture in these tiny Spanish Land Grant villages of New Mexico. I offer this short but beautiful quote:

“I bless you in the name of all that is good and strong and beautiful. Always have the strength to live. Love life, and if despair enters your heart, look for me in the evenings when the wind is gentle and the owls sing in the hills, I shall be with you.”

It is the time of night, the twilight, here on this land, that, no matter my challenges, always, always calls me and offers peace.

Love to you all,
Jeane

    ohhhhh, so lovely:)

Thank you for sharing that quote.

It comforts me to know that my Fathers spirit will endure with ME and his life is the lessons that he taught to me. His example will serve me now in nuances and stark recollection of truths now that he is no longer on the earth.

Peace be with us all as one.

    Grace

And he will be with you in the evenings when the wind is gentle and the owls sing in the hills… with you, of you, always.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
