Snowed In In New Mexico

I woke the other morning to a gorgeous sunrise…

… and so much snow that I was snowed in, until I could get my road plowed anyway.

Out here in the country, high up in the mountains, we don’t get mail delivery to our homes. We need to go uptown to the post office to pick it up every day, and only between 9AM and 1PM–a rather small window of time some days. This wouldn’t be important except for the fact that I depend on Netflix for my evening’s entertainment. So I had to walk out…

…which turned out to be pretty cool because I got to see the historic old buildings in my village, once again, at a walking pace–meaning I had the time to appreciate them.

This old church was built in 1754 by the first colonizing families to arrive in Truchas:

And these old adobes were part of the original plaza, forming a solid wall around the church so that all the people of the village could close themselves in, along with all of their animals, for protection during Indian raids:

Then, Netflix securely in hand, I headed back home again to fully enjoy the peace of being snowed in, with more snow on the way, and movies for the evening.

Love to you all,

Jeane

It is a big shift, to be looking at these historic buildings and idyllic town, then we switch to netflix. No matter how special the building, we are still regular humans inside them, living in now.

Already wrote something, but I guess it disappeared when I connected with facebook. It’s been awhile and just thought I would just poke in! I love the snow, never lived in it, but love it anyway. Everything looks so clean and fresh! I have a hard time getting to read your blog and really miss it…with all the homework they give (which I should be doing right now) it’s hard to get to it. I read a recent blog of yours and saw that you were suffering with shingles…hoping it has gotten better for you. School is really a trial for me right now…it’s hard…no time for myself…and I miss painting! Funny how you miss things more when you can’t do them. Well just thought I would poke in and say hello and when I can I read a blog or two. Take Care of yourself…will try to poke in more often! Cindy =)

Lovely to hear from you Cindy. Thank you for poking in when you have so many demands on your time. I’m sorry that school is a trial (it would be for me too) but I’m glad you’re doing it. There will come a time when you’re all done with it and you’ll be so happy for the education.

I think I’m turning a corner with the shingles. I hope to be better soon.

You take care too and have the very best New Year.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
