The Wisdom I’ve Gained From Writing 600 Blog Posts–An Invitation

As of today, I’ve actually published 605 blog posts and I’ve come to understand that we, each of us, have our stories to tell. And when we are allowed to tell them, when someone listens and we are heard, there is power in that—power that can heal and even change the trajectory of a life.

Have any of you seen the movie The Freedom Writers? (see Freedom Writers Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT0L1U-Rdj4) It stars Hilary Swank and is based on a true story. Erin Gruwell (Swank) is a first-time teacher in a school that is rife with gang violence. She finally gets through to her students when she gives each of them a journal and the assignment to write about their lives every day. She promises not to read them unless the student gives permission. But all the students want their stories read. And as it turns out, the simple act of writing their stories and sharing them, changed their lives.

Some of you have shared at least part of your story with me. Many of you have written to me about your dreams and your desire to pursue them. I’d like to give each of you a “digital journal” and ask that you write in it every day. Like Erin Gruwell, I won’t read them unless you want me to. But I dearly hope some of you will send me your stories using the Contact form on the blog (click here to go to the Contact form: http://high-road-artist.com/contact-2/). I will post, on the blog, any of them that resonate with me. PLEASE write!

Telling our story is an important part of being human I believe. I hope you’re willing to tell yours and to share it with this HRA blog community.

Here is my story in order, top to bottom:

    605. Will there be a celebration? All are good works too, pouring forth from your fragile heart in considerable depth. One might add to the celebration that you have now mastered the machine, and can send your thoughts from high on the mountain in silence and solitude, where the thinking and the air are both clear.

Thank you Third stone. The celebration will be a day of writing at my computer. I consider it such a privilege to live this way and, yes, to live up here in silence and solitude.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
