The Winds of Change

I’ve been seeing a lot of dragonflies lately: a tiny little thing that presented itself on a fence post on my property, great black and white ones like nothing I’d ever seen before and then this beautiful orange guy who followed me around the other day. In fact I’ve had enough unusual dragonfly sitings that I had to sit up and take notice.

I have a book of Native American Animal Medicine by Jamie Sams and David Carson that I have used as a teaching guide for many years now. In it they have compiled the wisdom handed down from elders of the Choctaw, Lakota, Seneca, Aztec, Yaqui, Cheyenne, Cherokee, Iroquois and Mayan traditions. They say, “Our fellow creatures, the animals, exhibit habit patterns that will relay messages of healing to anyone astute enough to observe their lessons on how to live… each animal has been assigned one of these lessons.”

So I pulled out the book and looked up Dragonfly Medicine. This is what it had to say:

“Dragonfly is the essence of the winds of change, the messages of wisdom and enlightenment, and the communications from the elemental world. This elemental world is made up of the tiny spirits of plants, and of the elements air, earth, fire, and water. In essence, this world is full of nature spirits.

If Dragonfly has flown into your cards today… on the psychological level, it may be time to break down the illusions you have held that restrict your actions or ideas.

Dragonfly medicine always beckons you to seek out the parts of your habits which you need to change… Have you tended to the changes you have wanted to make in your life? If you feel the need for change, call on Dragonfly to guide you through the mists of illusion to the pathway of transformation.”

So there it is, the message of Dragonfly. It does seem to resonate with me. I’m curious about what illusions I may be holding onto that restrict my actions or thoughts. What am I not seeing? What habits do I need to change? I feel there is something… You know I’ll keep you posted as I begin to figure it out.

Love to you all,
Jeane

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
