A Beautiful Storm in Northern New Mexico

As most of you know we’ve been getting a lot of rain storms here in the mountains of Northern New Mexico lately. We need the rain so they are always a blessing. Often, I drop whatever I am doing to watch the storms approach. My friend, Kim (see previous post A Very Mini Artist’s Colony), was over when this storm headed our way.

We stepped out on the deck to watch and I turned on the video function of my camera to try to capture something of this storm for you all. It was still quite a ways out there (I can’t be outside once the storm is overhead since, by then, it is always raining and also VERY unsafe). So you’ll only get a small sense of what these storms are like. The camera didn’t pick up the sound of the thunder very well and Kim and I were talking through it, but I still wanted to leave you with the original sound.

The storms have been amazingly powerful and I will continue to try to capture a truer sense of them for you. But in the meantime, here is one New Mexico storm I can share with you.

Love to you all,
Jeane

Jeane,  That was awe some!! 🙂  Thanks for sharing.  We have had no storms here in Seattle but for one little bit of thunder one night in the far distance from us here on the hill.  It reminded me of the midwest storm that I spent a night through when visiting the Chicago area…I could not imagine having these storms rush over you many times a summer WOW.  Such actual literal experiences for us as humans of the power of nature – and we forget the gravity (another power lol) of its presence being always surrounding us in one way or anther:)

I so wish I’d captured the real power of the storm. Once they are overhead they’re amazing! We are loving the monsoons and they’re bringing so much life-giving rain. They’re just beautiful! I’ll keep trying to capture a sense of them to share with you. Glad you liked the video even so. We’re getting these storms every single night!

Amazing! Such a beautiful and intense one you’ve captured. The video worked quite well. And if that was Tobey trying to put his two cents in, let him know he is appreciated.

I will continue to try to get a better video. The storms are, perhaps, too stunning to try to contain on video! That was actually BIG GIRL. She’s really taken to Kim and follows him onto the deck, but we didn’t think she really wanted to come out in the storm.

I should have known it was Big Girl! She has such a large presence and voice for that teeny body.

The character of that storm really did come through on the video. Couldn’t have been better.

I’m glad you felt the video captured the storm. They’re so wonderful I’m compelled to want to share them.

Yes, Big Girl is blessed with a huge spirit!

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
