How Many Artists Does it Take…

How many artists does it take to get a big old couch into an ancient adobe studio?

Actually, it’s a bit of a riddle or a trick question or something, because no matter how many of us there were, no many how many heads we put together (even including Bill Loyd’s, and you all know by now that Bill is the ULTIMATE problem solver), we couldn’t do it! NO!

Anna and I found this great old couch at Pieces in Taos (a fabulous thrift store) last month and put it on layaway. We were SO EXCITED to move it into the studio that’s attached to our gallery. So we borrowed Bill’s big truck and drove up there to get it. To tell you the truth, we didn’t realize how big it was. Sitting amongst all the other furniture at Pieces it seemed petite. Not. WE NEVER MEASURED IT!

And these old adobe places have very narrow doors. So Bill was the one who had to break it to us. No moss-colored turn of the century couch in the studio for us.

But the good news is, we put a wonderful old chair and ottoman on layaway when we were there to get the couch and are on the prowl for another. So the studio will be home-ied up soon enough. The fact is you just can’t keep we artists down. We’re tough characters, after all, and we were born to create—with a couch or a couple of chairs. It makes no difference to us!

Love to you all,
Jeane

I’m so sorry the couch didn’t work for you; it is beautiful! Which brings me to my question; what are you going to do with the couch? I would be interested in purchasing it from you if that is possible? Let me know. Thanks a lot?

And this photo doesn’t even show the cushions! We hadn’t put them on the couch yet before Anna had to have a seat. Thanks for the offer, but Bill and Anna had the perfect place for it in their guest room–the very room it’s in in the photo.

Yes, you do see. I posted a photo SOMEWHERE of it in Anna and Bill’s living room looking great, but I can’t for the life of me remember where it is!  🙂

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
