I’ve mentioned several times in earlier posts (see previous post Anna Karin Gallery: Warming the Exterior) that Bill Loyd is making huge planters for our gallery out of rusty metal. Are we lucky or what? And he just installed the first two. The third will be placed in the corner at the front of the building, but we’re laying bricks in that whole area to create a little plaza, so we must complete that before Bill can put in the final planter. Patience, patience… Whaaaaaa! Can you tell I’m excited?
We started the day going to our friends Vicki and Brian’s horse ranch to get a trailer load of composted manure. I can feel you gardeners out there turning green with envy as I write this. I’ll admit it’s a completely different errand than running down to the local garden store to buy it in 50 pound bags. I like this way better.
Then we headed over to Bill and Anna’s to load the planters onto his tractor.
Next stop the gallery.
And, voila! Two beautiful planters are installed changing the front look of the gallery dramatically and immediately.
They aren’t planted yet. It’s still a little cold to be doing that, but Anna and I are buying plants and she planted seeds in little pots some time ago. Before we know it lush little gardens will exist out there where once was only dirt. THANK YOU BILL! And Anna. Lovely to have such talented friends.

The planters are gorgeous!! I can just imagine the last one placed on the edge of the courtyard!! I think I need to simplify my garden to such spaces myself!! 🙂 Mine just grows more weeds to pull each year as a huge garden bed lol!
They are, aren’t they? They’re really HUGE but don’t seem so big once they’re installed. Then there will be Isabro’s carved wooden pieces on the window for the morning glory vines to crawl up on. And nastersians will spill over the edges, with hollyhocks standing sentinel. Can’t wait! Anna and I are going to Taos today to buy plants. Happy spring!

I admit to having manure envy. But seeing those works of art that Bill created helps some. The planters look almost as if they belong to the original adobe home, enhancing so well the new life you have all given it. A beautiful match on many levels! Brilliant work.
Glad you like the planters. I hadn’t thought about them working with the old adobe so well, but they do, don’t they? That front window box was a real challenge–cutting and welding many parts. Then, amazingly, it fit perfectly. It always does. I am always blown away by that. They will also weather and rust more getting more beautiful in time. We bought wisteria and honeysuckle today. Too early for much else. We also bought a gorgeous old couch for the studio! I’d say we’re nesting.
