A new artist has arrived in Truchas, New Mexico. His name is Kim Moss and he is a painter, a writer and a cook. He is here to help Bill and Margaret Franke with their wonderful Hand Artes Gallery over these winter months.
I was fortunate enough to happen by the gallery’s kitchen recently and was offered a piece of Kim’s mincemeat pie. I took the first bite and, literally, gasped. I’d never had mince pie before and was expecting something heavy and very sweet. But this was deep and rich and savory and also somehow delicate at the same time—a revelation.
And it is now your great good fortune that I am able to share the recipe Kim used with you, because he has written about it for the Santa Fe New Mexican—the local paper. I offer, here, a link to that story. Whether or not you are looking for a great mincemeat pie recipe, I hope you’ll check out this link. His telling of the pie’s history is well worth the read: Old Fashioned Mince Pie Stirs Memories.
Love to you all,
Jeane
