Hand Artes Gallery, Truchas, NM

Of course Bill and Margaret Franke have been back in Truchas for some time now, after a winter away. And their beautiful Hand Artes Gallery is shimmering with new work and energy for this new season. Any of you planning a trip to northern New Mexico, or those of you who are local, really need to pay this remarkable gallery a visit. As I’ve said before (see previous post Disparate Pieces), Hand Artes Gallery is one of my favorite galleries in all of New Mexico. It is a contemporary art gem nestled high in these Sangre de Cristo Mountains—a surprise you won’t want to miss.

Love to you all,
Jeane

Do you know the person who created the beautiful rock display that you show here? Bill did an especially nice job situating it with the paintings and the little cutaway that echoes the shapes of the stones. I can see why the pieces in this nook captured your attention, considering your ongoing relationship with the canyon, its forms, colors, and aura of mystery. So sorry we won’t get to visit Hand Artes this summer.

The rocks are by Ed Mills. His process is very interesting. I love all of his sculptures–even the bright lime green pieces. He has a real eye for balance. A great artist. And, yes, they definitely speak to me of the canyon.

About Me

About High Road Artist IMG 9461 150x150I am Jeane George Weigel, a working artist living in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and I do not think you and I are so different.

Every single one of us longs to know what we ache for, to “follow our bliss” as Joseph Campbell famously put it. You may find yours as an artist, a writer, or a teacher. But I am convinced we all yearn to live what is in our hearts. Some of us spend a lifetime discovering what that is. Some never find it.

This blog is about a journey of self-discovery, yours and mine. I write about the experience of living an artist’s life and share musings and photos as this living experiment unfolds. It is my hope you’ll join in the conversation by writing to me about your lives and I dearly hope something, here, will inspire you.
