Christmas is not about hustle and bustle for me. I don’t have a list of things I must do. Instead I’m spending Christmas making Date Nut Bread and Sweet Cream Biscuits and Mincemeat Pie.
Many of you don’t live in New Mexico and these kinds of sweet, little, adobe neighborhoods, and tiny, winding, streets, aren’t available to you. I hope these photos will give you a sense of Christmas in Santa Fe.
My first thought upon taking the first bite of Kim’s Sweet Cream Biscuits was one of surprise. They are beautifully, subtly, elegantly sweet! And they are also filled with another flavor. How can I describe it? It is round and nutty–the flavor of baked butter.
I am walking my path, pursuing my dream, following my bliss, so I understand I’m incredibly lucky. And yet I’m also unsettled because this life is hard. Being an artist is hard. There. I’ve said it.
I thought I would honor the memory of these strong women by posting their story today on election day. Every one of us, Democrat or Republican, man or woman, need to get out and vote.
Silence is what I love most about living in the country: Silence and the time to appreciate it. This blog is a kind of “virtual trip” to the country, a momentary immersion into the simpler things in life.
